David F. Schwartz advises on the deals and decisions behind theatre, film, and television projects, from early development through production and beyond. Drawing on his experience as both a lawyer and active producer, he brings firsthand understanding of the creative and business realities artists and producers face.
His production legal credits include Illinoise (pre-Broadway), The Lightning Thief (Broadway and national tour), and dozens of national tours, including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Great Gatsby, Water for Elephants, A Beautiful Noise, The Wiz, Life of Pi, Funny Girl, Come From Away, Mean Girls, Beetlejuice, The Book of Mormon, and Hairspray, as well as the documentary Cover Up (featuring journalist Seymour Hersh), Barry Levinson’s The Humbling (starring Al Pacino), American Sweatshop (starring Lili Reinhart), and Psycho Therapy (starring Steve Buscemi).
Schwartz is also a Tony Award-winning producer whose Broadway producing credits include Purple Rain (upcoming), Buena Vista Social Club, Illinoise, The Band’s Visit, and Once.
He received a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings), and is admitted to practice in New York, California, and the District of Columbia.
